After being told by 3 vets to say goodbye forever, person takes their rescued sick kitten home, where she makes an amazing recovery, reassuring her human that miracles sometimes look like refusing to give up

What would you do if you went to the vet and they told you to give up on your cat?

Worst nightmare. Rescuing a kitten is an act so pure, so selfless, so kind. You would never imagine doing it - doing something so good - and then instantly feel like you're being punished for it. The 7-day-old kitten whose story was shared on r/cats seemed fine when her human rescued her. Yes, the kitten was weak and tired, and clearly she was abandoned by her momma for a reason, but it didn't look like the end. Her humans had so much hope when they brought her to the vet, hope for a long and healthy life. 

When the vet told them to give up on their kitten, it broke their hearts. They looked at the itty bitty kitty in their hands, so fragile and small, and took her home to consider what to do. It was the kitten herself who convinced them not to give up on her. Despite being so weak and tired, she herself was not giving up, drinking as much milk as she could every single time. And looking at her, her human made a decision to hold out hope just a little bit longer. 

It took feeding the kitten every two hours, dragging her to the vet every afternoon for a checkup and treatment, and it took it for days on end. But it worked. The kitten made it, and looking at her now, living in her furrever home with the person who saved her life, you would never guess what she had to go through when she was little. Sometimes, miracles happen. But we think that more often than not, these miracles are not random, but rather they are the result of people refusing to give up.

    She was found when she was only about 7 days old and was so sick that even her stray mum abandoned her.

    When I brought her to the vet, they suggested me giving up, because she was too young and too weak. Her belly was swollen with unknown fluid, possibly something serious inside. She also had coronavirus, so her eyes were constantly watery and unclean.

  • Goodness, she really doesn't even look that bad. We can't imagine being told by three separate vets to give up on her. She just looks like she was ready to keep on living, despite the odds.

    But I decided to try anyway, because she never gave up on herself, always trying to drink milk even when she barely can stand up.

  • They say this about babies, and they should say it about cats too: You, as the parent, sometimes know better. Listen to your gut, to your heart, and apply everything that you know about your cat specifically to make a decision. Vets know cats. They don't know yours.

    Tasden I very, very seriously doubt the vet told them to give up. They probably gave them realistic odds though.

    Yogurtdogkiki OP Hehe thanks for your valuable doubt. I do feel I didn't write this part clearly. I took the baby cat to 3 different vets, the first two suggested me to give up and did not even do body check on her. So it is impossible for them to give me an odds. The last clinic did give me one, and kindly suggested me to give up since the odd was very low. I guess you are right to a certain degree.
